Welcome to one of our performance management resources pages
A picture is worth a thousand words. To save you reading time we have developed a performance management flow chart that will clarify a standard process for managing employee performance issues.
To summarise the flow chart, once you have identified a performance issue and, despite your efforts to help the employee, the issue persists without resolution, you will typically provide an employee with
- One verbal warning
- One written warning
- One final warning, and
- A termination letter
Depending on the labour laws in your region, you may find it necessary to modify the flow charts on this page.
This first performance management flow chart will help to determine if you should issue a verbal warning or take some other form of corrective action with the employee.
Where you choose to use some other remedy for the performance issue it is common to initiate a formal performance improvement plan, which outlines the actions required to improve performance and the expected rate of progress towards the ultimate goal, however it is not a warning.
The advantage of the performance improvement plan is that it provides a documentation trail should performance not improve and another remedy is required.
